Finalists now can compete for higher education scholarships

All forty-three National Merit Semifinalists at Blair have advanced to the Finalist stage of the 2008 National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSP). Six black Blazers have become National Achievement Finalists.

After becoming semifinalists by scoring above a cutoff on the Preliminary SAT test (PSAT), taken in the fall of junior year, all 43 National Merit Semifinalists fulfilled several academic requirements to become finalists. A full list of requirements is available at the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) web site

Each finalist is eligible to compete for several different scholarship competitions, including some sponsored by the NMSC and others through corporations and colleges. The NMSC awards $2,500 scholarships to 8,200 students between the months of March and June.

To learn more about the NMSP, visit the NMSP web site. Information about the National Achievement Scholarship Program is available here.
