Twelve semifinalists in Maryland

Blair senior Jessica Shang was one of eight MCPS semifinalists for the 2004 Presidential Scholars award. There were twelve in Maryland.

Shang and approximately 500 other qualifiers nationwide were chosen for outstanding performance on the SAT as well as leadership ability, personality and involvement in the community and extracurricular activities.

Candidates for the award received an application in the mail. "It was kind of like a pleasant surprise," Shang said. She had to write several essays and get recommendations to complete the application process.
