A Blair student was involved in an accident in front of the University Boulevard firehouse at approximately 7:05 a.m. today, Nov. 12, according to Blair administration and security. An announcement to Blair students and faculty at around 7:40 a.m. stated that the student did not sustain any serious injuries and would be in school for the rest of the day.

Senior Will Timpson was riding his bicycle to school when a parent driver struck him at the crosswalk near the entrance to the student parking lot. Security guard John Toombs verified that both Timpson and the driver were not severely injured. "The student was examined. He just cut his finger or his hand," said Toombs.

Timpson said that his bike got damaged but that he is fine. "I got scraped a little bit, but I jumped clear of the car. I wasn't really upset, just bummed out because my bike is messed up," he said. Timpson rides his bike to school every day and usually rides along Sligo Creek Parkway but decided today to take Flower Avenue to University Boulevard instead.

Paramedics and police were on the scene. The ambulance treated Timpson and then left after he was released in good condition. The police stayed in the area to control traffic and finish filing reports, said Toombs. Timpson said the police also got necessary insurance information.

The accident affected students and buses entering the University Boulevard parking lot. According to Toombs, the accident blocked traffic turning right into Blair. "It closed the lane completely," he said. Cars going east on University Boulevard were forced to wait for vehicles heading west to turn into the parking lot before they could maneuver around the ambulance.

The Blair administration stressed the need for precaution in rainy conditions. "Continue to be careful before and after school, especially in inclimate weather," said Assistant Principal Patricia Hurley in the announcement made earlier today.
