The Blazers lose in a close game

On April 6, the Blazers (1-4) lost to the Rockville Rams (3-3) in a tense 6-7 game.

The Blazers started out strong, taking possession of the ball after the initial face-off. However, junior Megan Gunnulfsen's goggles fell during this exchange and she needed to go back to the midfield to retrieve them. Rockville took advantage of this opportunity and scored their first goal ten seconds into the game.

The Rams' offense was assertive, but the Blazers defended their goal well. Blair senior goalkeeper Eliza Davis blocked several shots from the Rockville offense, working well with Blair's increasingly aggressive defense that repeatedly checked incoming Rockville players.

Nevertheless, the Rams were fast and scored another goal eight minutes into the first half.

However, Gunnulfsen pushed the tide back. She quickly scored the first goal for the Blazers, bringing the ball all the way from Blair's defensive side to Rockville's side while evading the Rams' defense. The crowd cheered as the ball hit the net.

Soon after, junior Grayson Davis scored Blair's second goal, making the score 2-2.

Gunnulfsen continued to make three consecutive goals in the first half while Davis consistently blocked the Rams' shots. By halftime, Blair was leading 5-2.

In the second half, the Rams made a comeback. They scored four consecutive goals while toughening up their offense and maneuvering around Blair's defense.

Senior Shiloh Burke scored Blair's final goal with 10 minutes left on the clock to tie the score at 6-6. However, Rockville scored the game’s final goal with five more minutes left, and the game concluded as a Blazer loss of 6-7.

Nonetheless, the Blazers played a determined game despite some injuries. Head coach Lena Richie liked how the team played more aggressively this game. "[I liked] our aggressiveness … when we forced turnovers and made the [Rockville] defense drop the ball then got it back onto our offense," Richie said.

The Blazers will play their next home game on April 22 against the Paint Branch Panthers at 7 p.m.
