The Blazers take home their second win of the season in 3-0 game against the Blake Bengals
Following their first win last week, the Blair varsity girls' volleyball team (2-3) dominated the Blake Bengals in a 3-0 game. With a showing of aces and kills by players throughout, Blair secured the win in only three sets.
The first set began with multiple aces by junior Celine Wu, giving Blair a lead over Blake. While the Blazers' made numerous powerful hits that landed out, their aces and kills (serves and hits that immediately scored a point) allowed them to keep their lead. Blake's coach, in an attempt to hinder the Blazers' momentum, called two timeouts in the set. Nevertheless, the Blazers charged forward and went on to win the set 25-18.
The Blazers continued their momentum from the first set into the second. The Blazers tried to exploit holes in Blake's defense to increase the lead, but the Bengals pulled even as Blair consistently hit out. In an intense rally close to set point, the crowd was on its feet as Blake hit the ball out. With a final hit by junior Brooklyn Prince, Blair won the set 25-20.
With only one set left to win the game, the third set once again started out with an ace by junior setter Celine Wu. Still, the Bengals fought hard to try to even out the score. After Blair pulled ahead 20-14, Blake’s coach called a final time-out. Blake's coach called a final time-out after Blair scored four consecutive points (20-14).
Nonetheless, with coordination from all members of the team, the Blazers continued to score and won the final set 25-18, leaving the crowd cheering in the stands.
Setter junior Rosie Orzulak comments that there were a lot of nice plays in the game. "A lot of our serves were super-duper good, and our swings were so good. Everyone was fully swinging, everyone was giving it their all. We were running a lot of plays that we just learned in practice so being able to actually execute it during the game was really fun, " Orzulak said.
The Blazers will play their next home game on Friday, Oct. 1 against Sherwood at 4:45 p.m.
