Blair teams to participate in global competition

Two teams from Blair will be participating in the global Destination Imagination competition, making Blair the only school in the county to send more than one team. The two teams of freshman placed in the top
two at the state competition on April 5.

The first team conquered its challenge "video adventure" in which the team created a life size video game and acted out their game. The challenge required the main character in the skit to address the current events in at least three countries and overcome at least three physical obstacles. According to team member, Abby Goldman, the characters quest was to "overcome world hunger." The characters in the skit included an orange leprechaun, a samurai Oreo, and a hippie unicorn.

The team consisted of Goldman, Sally Lanar, Tess Minnick, Jordy Goldstein, and Sarah Janesko. All members had competed in previous Destination Imagination but none had made competitions beyond states.

The second team competed in the "connecDID" challenge in which they created a "small structure that would hold a lot of weight," said team member John Silberholz. The team built a 32.5 gram structure made completely out of balsa wood that was capable of holding 635 pounds. They performed an eight minute skit in which the main character traveled through time.

The second team consisted of Silberholz, Pratik Bhandari, Rohit Dewan, Yao Xu, and Chelsea Zhang. The team is unsure of whether they will participate in the global competition due to prior commitments by three team members.

The global competition will be held in Knoxville, Tennessee the week of May 21.
