The Washington Post Challenge Index, published yearly by Education
Reporter Jay Matthews, ranks Blair as the 33rd most challenging public
high school in the DC-Metropolitan area. Matthews computed Blair's
official Challenge Rating of 1.997, in the 96th percentile of all U.S.
schools, by dividing the number Advanced Placement, International
Baccalaureate or other college level tests a school gave by the number of
seniors who graduated last June. The rating, Matthews wrote, does not
measure the overall quality of the school but "illuminates one factor
that many educators and researchers consider important." Schools in
which over half of the students are admitted based on grades and test
scores were not included in the rankings and were not rated.
