The PTSA sells fresh fruit to raise money for their organization

The Blair Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) asks for support from all teachers, parents and students as they run the citrus sale in partnership with Florida Indian River Groves. They are hoping to raise the money for their PTSA funds, so they can help fund events at Blair. They are currently selling navel oranges, pink grapefruit and mandarin oranges that will be harvested the same day they are shipped to the PTSA.

Blair financial assistant Lisa Franklin has participated in the citrus sale for the last two years and wants to make sure it continues. This is the only fundraiser that the Blair PTSA holds, as the rest of their money comes from student, parent, and teacher donations. "The money supports the Blair PTSA, and we support a lot of things at school, including mini grants available for staff and students and after-prom," Franklin said.

As the only chair of the fundraiser this year, she has many responsibilities to assure the sale runs as smoothly as possible. "From coordinating with the fruit sellers over the summer, to determining which of their products is gonna sell, to getting the ecommerce site taken care of, there is a lot of communication involved in making a citrus sale successful," Franklin said. The sale started on Sept. 10 and will continue until Nov. 9. On the last day of the fundraiser, volunteers will help unload the fruit from the delivery trucks so that people can retrieve their orders.
