JAN 11, WHEATON HIGH SCHOOL-

With a tradition of rivalry looming behind them, Montgomery Blair and Wheaton high schools grappled once again. The result, however, broke Blair's six year winning streak with an unfortunate three point loss, due to a forfeit in the 112-weightclass to conclude the match. The wrestling team, motivated by their loss, went on to massacre Seneca Valley High School 54-12.

Wheaton high school has historically beaten Blair in wrestling, until six years ago when the coaching staff changed and Blair's winning streak began. However, the streak has now ended, due to 18 forfeit points from three unfilled weightclasses, marking the third match of the season in which Blair was defeated due to forfeit points.

This excruciating defeat did not bring the Blazer down, though. The loss only motivated them, leading to the annihilation of Seneca Valley, and Blair's third win of the season.

The team was especially motivated by juniors Scott Nguyen and Hansel Cedeno who, throughout the match, competed with each other. Cedeno, who wrestled his matches before Nguyen, pinned his Wheaton adversary in under a minute, earning him the fastest pin. He held this title only until Nguyen beat Cedeno's time, pinning his opponent four seconds earlier. Hoping to earn the title back, Cedeno dominated his Seneca Valley match, putting the wrestler on his back in six seconds, and pinning him in 12. But Nguyen got the last laugh, pinning the Seneca Valley 103 in 21 seconds right in front of the photographer.

Blair's next match will take place on Tuesday, Jan 14 at Poolesville at 7:00.
