JV boys' soccer loses to Churchill 0-1

OCT. 27, BLAZER STADIUM-

The JV boys' soccer team had its first loss in two seasons to Churchill High School. A costly mistake by Blair in the 62nd minute gave Churchill the only goal of the game. The loss dropped the team's season record to 10-1.

The loss ended two streaks for Blair's JV boys' soccer. The Blazers had been previously un-scored upon this year, and the team had not lost a game dating back to the beginning of last season. "It was unfortunate to end the season on such a sour note, but we are still in the top of the division," said sophomore defender Ethan Kuhnhenn. "We played a great game tonight and the blame is on no one individually. We as a team are responsible for the loss," Kuhnhenn continued. "The responsibility is just as much on the defenders and midfielders as the forwards.”

The team played very competitively against one of the most physical teams they have played against this year. According to sophomore forward Nick Mozer, Churchill (10-1-1) was the fastest and most difficult team Blair has been up against.

Blair played most of the second half on the attack, but several scoring opportunities were wasted. Sophomore Yendoukoa Lamboni and freshman Prince Momo missed several shots, which could have turned the tide in the game. "We had quite a few attempts on their goal that were very close," Mozer said after the game. "One foot in any different direction and the score could have been very different.”

The defense played very well for most of the game because of the return of sophomore defenseman Alec McLean, who played with the varsity team for half of the season. In the 62nd minute, McLean tried to clear the ball out of Blair's goalie box, but it was intercepted by a Churchill forward. The forward quickly shot before Blair goalie Matt McClain could react.

Except for this single mistake, Blair dominated its opponent. Mozer felt that "we played better, but in such an equal match, one mistake in either direction is going to decide the game.”
