Blair’s “Friday Freebies” was a huge success, supplying students with coats, gloves, and other essential items for the winter season
On Nov. 18th, Montgomery Blair High School (MBHS) hosted its second Kindness Corner of the 2022-2023 school year on the stage of the Student Activity Center (SAC). With a line that spanned halfway into the main hallway, Blair’s latest act of giving back to the community was a big hit.
The Kindness Corner offered free shoes, gloves, canned foods, toiletries, winter coats, and more essential items to students who may not be able to afford them. “This is a great way to help kids that are less fortunate than others.” said John, a student waiting in line.
According to its website, “Kindness Corner was founded at MBHS with a vision to coordinate all efforts to assist our students and their families in a time of hardship and need.” Farzaneh Nabavian, Blair’s Parent Community Coordinator, leads the initiative. She also has spread Kindness Corners to Takoma Park Middle School and Takoma Park Elementary School.
Principal Renay Johnson was present at the event to help ensure it ran smoothly. “I think it's amazing, I think we have such a generous community to give a lot of resources to our school … our students are really into getting the coats, and socks, and personal items, and toiletries,” said Johnson.
