For the sixth consecutive year, Blair has the largest number of National Merit Scholarship semifinalists in Montgomery County.

Blair had 41 finalists and the next high schools behind it were Richard Montgomery and Walt Whitman with 26 semifinalists each. Montgomery County had 44 percent of the 313 semifinalists in Maryland.

The students from Maryland will compete against 16,000 students for 8,000 scholarships. The semifinalists were selected by their PSAT scores and about 90 percent of them will become finalists. All of the finalists will be considered for 2,500 scholarships, each worth $2,500.

The announcement of National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists was made on September 19.
