Blair gymnastics starts off on shaky feet

After ending last year's season with a disappointing sixth place out of seven teams in the County meet, the girls' gymnastics team has been hit hard this year with the loss of several key athletes.

According to coach Paul Belliveau, the team is in a transition stage but has young players with potential. "We graduated all our founders. We have talented athletes and a solid base, but this will be a bit of a rebuilding year," said coach Paul Belliveau.

Junior co-captains Rose Feinberg and Raya Steinberg, as well as sophomores Nicole Poor and Lisa Wong are expected to do very well this year. Wong made the All-Star squad last year and, according to Belliveau, the team has exceptional and talented gymnasts with experience.

Unfortunately, not all the girls are as experienced, so this year is geared towards preparing the team for future seasons. "This season will mostly be about giving the team the practice they need for an even better season in the upcoming years," said Feinberg.

Belliveau explained that Blair has always had a lack of girls with gymnastic training and the last two years have been no exception. However, he remains optimistic. "My main goals are for the girls to have fun and be stronger and more confident in two months," Belliveau said.

The first meet will be on Apr. 8 against Blake.
