Blair evacuated during 5B

A smoke detector went off near room 211, causing Blair to be evacuated during 5B today. Two fire trucks responded to the scene, according to Attendance Secretary Roxanne Fus.

During 5B, Research and Experimentation teacher Mark Curran and six students were melting foam in room 211 to make design prototypes, but they do not believe that had anything to do with the alarm. "We always melt things in here, and it doesn't set off the smoke detector,” said Curran

After an investigation of the area, the cause of the fire alarm was deemed inconclusive. "The firemen came in with a heat sensing CD panel device that displays infrared images of heat,” Curran said. "The device found no source of heat or smoke.”

There has been a history of faulty smoke detectors in Blair. "For four years in a row there was a faulty smoke detector outside of the administration office in 340s offices,” Curran said. "Even when the sensors were changed, it still went off.”
