At the Montgomery County Division 1 cheerleading competition on Saturday, December 1st, Blair cheerleaders won the Spirit Award. Despite having lost three critical members of the squad to foot injuries the night before, the cheerleaders managed to pull through and put up a competitive front at the event.
Due to the damaging effect of these injuries, all of Blair's squad's high difficulty stunts had to be removed from its routine. The three injured members, Andrea Perdomo, Kristin Williams, and Jessica Stamler, were the cheerleading squad's main flyers. "Our opening stunt, our ending stunt, and just about half of everything was out of the question," said Stamler.
Stamler said that the team's captain, Mary Murphy, and squad member Amber Duckett worked very hard to rework the team's routines, replacing the stunts with an extra dance. "The squad did an awesome job pulling everything together with all of the last minute changes. I think that we really showed our ability to overcome obstacles," Stamler said.
Damascus High School took first place in the competition, while Wootton High School and Magruder High School tied for second.
