Blair administrator set to retire

Ninth grade vice principal Richard Wilson will be leaving Blair on February 23. He worked as a Blair administrator for the past three and a half years and as an educator for 40 years before that.

Wilson's decision was spurred by a job offer from Salisbury University, which has hired him to work in the social studies department. He will act as the director of a two-year grant program, which will reach out to high school history teachers in the Salisbury area.

Wilson plans to move out to Salisbury on February 24 and has already arranged his accommodations. He considers the move a homecoming. "I grew up in Salisbury. I'm going home," he said.

The suddenness of the departure does leave Wilson with a certain amount of regret. Wilson reported that the job opportunity came unexpectedly and that he will be sad to leave Blair. "I hadn't planned on leaving until I found out about the job. Blair is like my small town; I will miss this school," he said.

Nonetheless he is excited about the move and his future prospects. "On the other hand, I'm really looking forward to moving. My house is twenty minutes from the beach and the new job is really flexible," he said.

Wilson is unsure about what he will do after the two-year grant expires, but he is keeping his options open. "Who knows, I might come back to Blair!" he said.

James Short, who currently teaches in the Special Education department, will replace Wilson.
