Families encouraged to take advantage of informative event

The Black College Expo will take place this Saturday, Sept. 18, at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Tickets for the program are $5 and will be sold at the door.

The event will host representatives from over 50 historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs). Informative seminars on topics such as "Financial Aid," "How to Prepare for College" and "Why attend a HBCU?" will be held throughout the morning. The expo will also include a Fraternity and Sorority Step Show and will feature special guests congressman Al Wynn and Prince George's County Executive Jack Johnson.

Scholarship certificates will also be awarded towards the conclusion of the program.

According to the Black College Expo web site, the purpose of the event is to "promote higher education and self-development in a positive atmosphere" and to "empower African American youth to strive for the best, regardless of their background."

The Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex is located at 8001 Sheriff Rd. in Landover, MD, next to FedEx Field. For directions to the Complex, click here or call 301-583-2400.
