Bike donations accepted as part of charity event

Temple Sinai of Washington, D.C., is accepting bikes as donations as part of the Pedals for Progress (PfP) project.

On Nov. 21, the temple's Jewish Youth Board will collect and disassemble the used bikes, according to junior Jay Asbell, who helped organize the project. "We take the pedals and handlebars off and put them in a truck that's then driven off by the people in Pedals for Progress," explained Asbell. The bikes are sent to partner charities in 20 countries, according to the PfP web site.

Junior Sarah Wolk, a Sinaiite and project representative, said that students may earn Student Service Learning hours for volunteering to take apart bikes and help with the collection.

Donors should drop off their bikes at 3100 Military Road in Northwest Washington, D.C., between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Nov. 21 or contact Wolk to accommodate their donation.
