Walter Johnson junior Ben Moskowitz has been elected as the Student Member of the Board of Education (SMOB) for the 2007-2008 school year, carrying 56.75 percent of the vote countywide to edge out Blair junior Will Bucher.
Over the last two days, 83.56 percent of the 63,732 students in middle schools, high schools and alternative learning centers in Montgomery County participated in the elections, MCPS announced in a press release.
Moskowitz will become the 30th SMOB beginning July 2.
Bucher received 43.25 percent of the votes, and 320 students abstained from voting for either candidate.
During English classes yesterday and today, Blazers reported to the gym to participate in both SMOB and SGA elections. At Blair, Moskowitz received 64.32 percent of the votes to Bucher's 35.68 percent.
