Baseball breezes by B-CC

Pitching is key for both teams

The Blazers crushed Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School's baseball team 12-2 in a game shortened to five innings by the league's mercy rule. When the game ended, Blair had men on first and second with no outs after their first seven batters of the inning had scored.

Senior starting pitcher Michael Coe held the Barons to just two runs in five innings despite eight walks and two fielding errors by Blair. Coe spaced his five strikeouts well and was helped by junior catcher Max Eckert, who caught a runner stealing in the second inning, and by a double play in the fifth. B-CC only successfully stole one base.

B-CC pitchers did not fare so well, beaning four Blazers, though a botched call by the home plate umpire called one hit by pitch a foul ball. Eight Blazers were walked, including four in the breakout fifth inning. Blair chose good pitches to swing at and only had one called strike three.

Senior first baseman Nick Cope and senior third baseman Thomas Kaufman both had great days at the plate. Cope went two for two with one walk, one RBI and two runs scored and Kaufman went three for three with a walk, two stolen bases, one RBI and one run scored.
