APR 29, BLAZER STADIUM–
The Blazers were overpowered by a talented, 10-1 Watkins Mill team tonight, as they lost 11-2. The loss marks their seventh in their last eight games, as Blair's record fell to a disappointing 4-8.
Offensively, the Blazers were foiled by all-state Wolverine pitcher Matt Montgomery. He allowed only two hits and one unearned run, while recording ten strikeouts without walking a batter in six innings.
The Blazers' runs came when junior outfielder Raymond Anderson scored on senior second baseman Mike Sidorov's sacrifice in the third inning, and senior outfielder Mike Cozy scored on junior third baseman Alex Rumbaugh's sacrifice in the seventh inning.
However, Wolverine runs came in groups. Blair allowed three runs in the second inning and four runs in the fourth inning off of starting pitcher Grant Staking, and two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings both off of Anderson, his reliever.
Coach John Macdonald feels that both Blair's offense and Staking had sub-par results. "Our hitting was weak," he said. "Defensively, I thought we were adequate. We hung in there, we just didn't get a good starting pitching performance."
The Blazers next play at home against Damascus on Apr 30 at 4:00pm. The first three and one half innings of the game was played on Apr 25, before the second half was postponed due to rain, with the Blazers ahead 4-0.
