Event to benefit Whitman-Walker Clinic
The AIDS Walk Washington, a 5K fundraising walkathon, will take place this Saturday, Oct. 23 beginning at Freedom Plaza in Washington, D.C. from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
According to the event flyer, the walkathon will begin with a Pre-Walk Rally at 8:00 a.m., and the activity will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will take place until 10:30 a.m. Walkers will begin near Freedom Plaza on Pennsylvania Ave. and 12th St., NW and will continue down towards the Capitol. Walkers will then continue south on 3rd St. and will loop back towards Pennsylvania Ave.
A Post-Walk Celebration will follow the walkathon at Freedom Plaza. This portion of the event will include an awards ceremony, sponsor booths and music.
Donations toward the event, which currently total more than $550,000, will benefit those infected and/or affected by HIV/AIDS.
The Walk is organized by and will benefit the Whitman-Walker Clinic. According to AIDS WALK Washington, the clinic is a "nonprofit community-based health organization comprised of volunteers and staff who provide dependable, high-quality, comprehensive and accessible health care to those infected or affected by HIV/AIDS."
Freedom Plaza is accessible via the Metro's orange and blue lines at the Federal Triangle stop or via the red and orange or blue lines at the Metro Center stop.
