A loss by a single point puts Blair's wrestling team in a 1-3 season

DEC 14, MONTGOMERY BLAIR HIGH SCHOOL --
The Blair wrestling team suffered a 36-37 loss to Rockville High School. This agonizing defeat could have been converted to a win, had Blair not been penalized two points at the end of the match.

Blair wrestled well overall, earning one more point than the Rockville Rams, which should have resulted in a Blair victory of 38-37. "We had a lot of strong individual performances, but a few incidents cost us the win," remarked assistant-coach James Schafer. The most crucial of these incidents occured in the 215 weight class, when junior Michael Hayes unintentially bit his opponent in the chest. This resulted in a penalty, which deducted two points from Blair's team score, and a win for Rockville.

Despite the disappointing final score, the match did yield some positive outcomes. Junior Ben Silsbee (125) earned his first varsity pin, junior Herbert Morsha-Taylor (heavyweight) earned a pin in only 46 seconds, and junior Hansel Cedeno (171) defeated, and injured, the number one ranked 171 pound wrestler in the county.

The next wrestling event is the Damascus Tournament, which will be held over winter break on Dec 27 and 28.
