ACC Tournament 2005: Virginia Tech

One of the true surprises of the ACC season was the wonderful play of Virginia Tech. They were the "new kid on the block" who would crumble under the enormous pressure of the hectic ACC schedule. Instead, Tech handed out some punishment of it's own, beating up on such heavyweights as Duke and Georgia Tech on their way to the fourth seed in the ACC tournament.

Strengths:
Virginia Tech's main claim to fame is their incredible balance. They have four players averaging in double figures and play great defense to boot. Tech seems to play like an old-school team in that it doesn't try to get the bulk of it's production from one or two players but rather from the whole team. Even little used players have some contribution to the game, resulting in a team chemistry that is unmatched by any other in the league.

Weaknesses:
Much like Miami, Virginia Tech's main weakness lies in the talent difference between their players and the opponent's. The fact remains that Tech has not yet established itself as an elite basketball program (although a deep run in the tournament could change that), and recruits are hesitant to try and forge a program with them.
