Kanye West tops nominations
This is not original reporting. The following information has been gathered from Grammy.com's list of Grammy nominees and from the story titled "47th GRAMMY Nominees Announced."
The 2005 Grammy nominations were announced today, Dec. 7, and rapper Kanye West garnered 10 nominations alone.
R&B artists Alicia Keys and Usher followed West with eight nominations each. The late Ray Charles, who died in June at age 73, was nominated for seven awards for his posthumous album.
Competing with West's The College Dropout for Album of the Year are Keys' The Diary of Alicia Keys, Usher's Confessions, Charles' Genius Loves Company and Green Day's American Idiot.
Song of the Year nominees include songs from pop, R&B, rap, country and rock genres: "Daughters" by John Mayer, "If I Ain't Got You" by Alicia Keys, "Jesus Walks" by Kanye West, "Live Like You Were Dying" by Tim McGraw and "The Reason" by Hoobastank.
On the other hand, Record of the Year nominees are Black Eyed Peas for "Let's Get It Started," Ray Charles and Norah Jones for "Here We Go Again," Green Day for "American Idiot," Los Lonely Boys for "Heaven" and Usher, Lil Jon and Ludacris for "Yeah!"
West, Joss Stone, Los Lonely Boys, Gretchen Wilson and Maroon 5 contend for the Best New Artist title.
Nominations were announced at a press event held at the Henry Fonda Music Box Theater in Hollywood, California that attracted dozens of leading artists, including Hoobastank, Nelly, Anita Baker and the Black Eyed Peas.
The 47th Grammy Awards ceremony will be held Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
