Mainly tricks

Getting tired of Halloween? Need something to spice up an otherwise dull night of handing out candy? Want to hang onto the candy so you can "inherit" the leftovers? Do you just want to drive away the incessant trick-or-treaters? Need to satisfy your sadist- I mean playful appetite? Here are 10 tricks for Halloween to ward away potential candy-thieves or get a good laugh (or more importantly keep your candy for yourself).

10.Instead of preparing a bowl filled with candy for distribution, prepare a bowl filled with empty candy wrappers for distribution.

9.Whenever a trick-or-treater rings your doorbell, have one person start screaming, bang on the door, and sound like he's getting dragged away. Then open the door. A costume with some chicken blood or something might be nice, but smile and ask if they want a snack. Lick your lips as you say this.

8.As shown by the comic Big Nate, buy nutritional snacks and give them to trick-or-treaters. In fact, if you're in the darkness and they can't see what you have very well, offer a trade, something like a 1.5:1 ratio of snacks.

7.Drape white cloth over you (like a ghost). Leave the door semi-open, enough so that anyone coming close would catch a glimpse of candy. When they knock, jump out at them (but don't knock them down!).

6.Find a pickle jar and put candy in it. Glue the jar to a stand and place outside. Make sure you can reach into the jar with an open hand, but a fist would get stuck.

5.Open a window above your door. When someone comes to ring the bell, pelt him or her with candy.

4.Popularized by the Calvin and Hobbes comic strips, take a hose, hide behind a bush, and spray trick-or-treaters with water as they come to your door.

3.Prepare a water balloon (preferably red), filled with liquid (again, preferably red). Place it in the trick-or-treater's bag.

2.Put double-sided tape on candy, preferably a large one (e.g. Air Heads). Attach string. When a trick-or-treater arrives, place the candy in their bag, and as they walk away, pull the candy back out… with more. Might take practice.

1.Find a red bowl. Place candy in the bowl. Fill with jell-o (preferably red). Enjoy.
